“Coaching definitely helped me outline what I wanted, how I was going to get there and what my next steps wee, and then spurred me into action!”
“I was guided into thinking of ways of solving a variety of problems in managing my professional and home life”
“You hold the space very well without me feeling judged. Sometimes talking about yourself can be emotional and you give plenty of space for reflection and time to think about things”
Making any kind of change can feel like a challenge. Whether the change is small or big, to do with work or home, decisions need to be made about the what, where, how and when, and consideration needs to be given to the impact of change on you, and others close to you. Sometimes change can feel exciting and at other times it can feel overwhelming. There may be different options to choose from and there may well be some sort of grieving process involved too, especially if you haven’t been the one to instigate the change.
Giving yourself the time and space to gain clarity about your drivers for change, how the change will create meaning for you, and what needs to be in place to enable the change will make the process of transition as smooth as possible.
I have a wealth of experience in supporting people through change. I have supported hundreds of people on a one-to-one basis as a coach, including:
Professional performers who are thinking about transitioning into another career and other creative industry professionals
Those working in the teaching profession who give so much of their time nurturing young people, many of whom often feel overwhelmed with the workload.
People who want to make a significant shift in their career or personal life to find a new challenge, a fresh perspective, a new relationship or a different relationship with work.
Some people come to me when they are at a point of crisis – something outside of their control might have caused an abrupt change; they might be injured or they might be emotionally exhausted and have had enough of things as they are. Some people come to me with more of a long-term view, wanting to reconnect with their values, and think about how they can gently re-purpose their life and explore options over time. You will know when the time is right for you to consider coaching.
What is coaching?
Coaching is about facilitating your thinking. It provides you with the time and space to talk about a topic, issue or concern that is important to you and supports you to come up with a plan to make progress in relation to that topic. Coaching isn’t about offering advice – that’s the role of a mentor. Nor is it about going into great depth about why things happened in the past – that would be more therapeutic. Instead coaching is a forward focused conversation looking at what’s important to you and how you can make positive steps towards achieving your aspirations. You’ll be asked open questions that encourage you to broaden your thinking, gain clarity, recognise any self-limiting beliefs or assumptions you may have made, and understand what really drives you. Many people find that coaching provides them with a clearer sense of their values and purpose, improved levels of confidence and increased motivation.
The success of coaching is ultimately dependent on you! It directly relates to how much you’re willing to trust the process, open up, reflect on your current situation, explore new possibilities and perspectives and take action. Essentially it’s about how much energy you’re willing to invest in the process – both within and between sessions – and how much you believe in your own ability to make positive progress.
